Book of 2 Timothy


Chapter 1

  • Constantly pray for others with a clear conscious and above reproach
  • Mention of mother and grandmother
  • Don’t be afraid to share the faith with family members
  • God powers us with Spirit of power, strength, love, and self-discipline

  • verse 1:9, We are saved by Grace
  • Galatians 3:6-14 reference
  • Guard our deposit entrusted to us, live our  our faith, do not be misled
  • 1 John reference, cannot do righteous deeds if you do not believe in him

Chapter 2

  • starts on personal level
  • pass on the teachings, cycle of leaders
  • Endure hardships and soldier obedience
  • Western society tends to avoid hardship, while Christianity grows faster in tougher countries
  • Soldier wants to please his commander
  • Athletes win when they follow the rules
  • Work hard and be patient for your rewards
  • Reflecting on the words will bring insight and understanding
  • Although we suffer, the word, the work, and faith will not waiver
  • Endure to teach others so they can get salvation when they hear the Good News
  • Philippians 1:21 reference, to die is to gain, living in the Spirit
  • We suffer for him and share in the administration and do not turn away from him
  • Even though we stop caring, he will not give up faith on us, he pays attention, regardless of what we do
  • God cannot disown himself, do not deny his faith in us
  • God can intervene
  • Don’t argue over words and ruins it for those who listen, even for gray area
  • Present yourself to God approved as a worker and not ashamed
  • Emphasis on avoiding Godless chatter or it spreads like a virus
  • Avoid false teaching like saying resurrection is one thing but not another
  • If mishandled, someone take’s their opinion above God’s words
  • If a Christian, must abstain from wickedness
  • Be the person to be used for God’s purpose
  • verses 2:20-21, Drop the bad to be cleansed and become noble and useful for God
  • Pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace
  • Clear conscious = above reproach, no one can accuse you of anything
  • Don’t get into foolish arguments (repeated theme)
  • Be patient with difficult people
  • Still instruct those who disagree and that God grants repentance

Chapter 3

  • In beginning, Timothy urgently warns about the last days
  • People, including some Christians, gaining bad qualities
  • Those Christians put up a false appearance of being Godly and deny the power
  • they oppose the truth and will not get far and will be revealed to everyone
  • More likely these people are a bad influence on us rather than our good influence affecting them
  • Directed about non-believers but can affect Christians
  • Women beware against false teachers worming into their homes
  • false teachers like Egyptian magicians and false prophets
  • Their folly will be revealed
  • Continue to preach to these people, but Johovah’s witnesses are much tougher
  • Paul suffered for the gospel and living for Christ
  • False prophets will deceive and be deceived
  • Scripture makes you wise for salvation (mainly old testament salvation was known at the time)
  • All scripture is inspired and useful in righteousness
  • Equips man for every good work

Chapter 4

  • In God’s presence we are charged with preaching the word, like a judge
  • Preach no matter when, convenient or not, the most important responsibility
  • teach all of the gospel
  • Season regarding your spiritual high or low, or whether people are receptive
  • Exhort, correct, and rebuke with care and patience
  • The masses will ignore doctrine and flock to teachers who preach what they want to hear
  • Should not be about feeling good but of conviction
  • The masses ended up listening to myths
  • Keep your head in all situations, endure, and do evangelistic work
  • Don’t preach what you do not know
  • Drink, offering is preparing for death and submit to Christ and sacrifice
  • Fight the good fight, finish the face and keep the faith
  • In store for us is a crown of righteousness
