Book of Isaiah

Isaiah 55 (Work In Progress)

  • This is prior to Jeremiah warning Judea about 70 years of exile
  • At this point in history, there are two kingdoms: Israel to the north and Judea to the south
  • Isaiah warns about straying away from the one true God and marrying non-believers (how the problems started)
  • verse 1, he phrased buying without spending anything but he meant the price already paid and we still have to go and get it (a leap of faith to come and get it)
  • Many examples of food & drinks repeated in the first two verses
  • He shows an urgency to return to God, anyone can die without seeking Him in love
  • When we get our nourishment from God, he will satisfy us
  • verses 3-5, even though the Jews forgot about God, he still wants to reconfirm the Covenant to show his love, and we should reciprocate before it is too late
  • When the Jews embrace the light and the feast, other nations will be in awe and want to know what Israel is all about
  • verse 8-9, God’s declaration of sovereignty in thoughts and ways over everyone
  • Someone mentioned a song called “No Sacrifice” has these verses as lyrics
  • verses 10-11, God’s promise of providing and he knows what he is doing and what’s best for us
  • Whatever he gives us, like gifts, there is a reason behind it even if we may refuse it
  • More parallel to Jesus Christ, the word became flesh
  • verse 12-13, briers = thorny, myrtle = pine-like plants
  • Parallel to Jesus’ ministry and crucifixion
  • Trees is everlasting like God’s promise to us
